War or serious unrest in oil producing countries affects everyone else in the world, if oil is restricted then communities suffer, not just the ‘rich in the West’ but the poor everywhere suffer from fuel shortage. The problem is that wind turbines will not manage to cover the total requirement of power to keep industry and individuals running at present capacity, what happens when we are held to ransom if we continue to depend so totally on oil. There are sufficient reserves of oil world wide to continue to drive personal and industrial needs for a short period of time, however if all nations are to benefit from the results of industry we need to move away from relying on oil and the insignificant amount of power from wind turbines. There are a number of water power experiments going on world wide but the obvious answer of water turbines is totally missed, look at ‘Heroes Wheel’ where it shows steam rotating a couple of cups, drop water into the same test vehicle instead and you have power for ever and as previously noted the sea water driven systems can generate fresh water from the residue of power production by redirecting the flow to desalination plants.
It seems that the amount of time spent generating electricity is quite short with payments made to ‘owners’ when the unit does not make electricity. Apparently during stormy weather the units are ‘feathered’ so as not to cause damage and also no one wants a blade sailing through their property. Figures bandied around vary but when the turbine isn’t turning the owners are compensated to the tune of “Millions” of whatever currency is used in whatever part of the world. Some small farms become too expensive to repair and are just left as is. The cost of maintenance at offshore farms must be horrendous during even moderate weather.
It is time to take sea water and put it to good use, it is not difficult to take a sea water feed from the coastal area and use it to drive a Water Wheel Generator. What to do with the sea water once it has driven the Water Wheel, desalinate and use to irrigate crops, store in reservoirs, use it as a cooling medium in industry. Lots can be accomplished when using sea water and it will all help to lower the Ocean Levels!!
As storm force winds blow how can the wind turbine maintain generation and equilibrium? Does the geared end disengage and if not do we get the massive ‘electric fires’ seen in different parts of the world.
With water powered units we can for example use sea water to drive the turbine and then divert the sea water to a desalination plant that would make drought a thing of the past. We could irrigate areas previously thought to be too barren to grow crops, so a water powered unit has the extra benefit of water for crop growth.
